We celebrate 10 years of ‘Science WOW’ 

At the party, guests were treated to a speech by Chair Dr David Cleevely, who shared his reflections on the incredible transformations the Centre has undergone, from changing locations to now offering community-based PopUpScience Centres. David said: “Ten years ago, the East of England was the only region in the UK without a Science Centre. Since starting CSC, we have reached dozens of underserved communities and welcomed hundreds of thousands of children, many of whom have had their prospects and ambitions changed for the better. With a fantastic board of Trustees and a great team led by John Bull, we are going to have an even greater impact in the future”.

CEO, John Bull took the stage to express his gratitude to the team, friends, and supporters who have made the past ten years possible. He said: “We’ve had a blast this evening celebrating ten years of ‘WOW’ Science Centre moments with our team, friends and supporters.” John shared the Centre’s exciting plans for the future, which include reaching even more children, families, and communities through the unique CSC hands-on approach to STEM.

Michael Anstey, Cambridge Innovation Capital, CSC Supporter, and Innovate Cambridge, spoke about the importance of bringing industry, academia and civil society together to ensure that Cambridge remains a globally competitive innovation ecosystem. Michael said:

“Science changes lives, and we know that because we have seen it first-hand through the businesses we work with. They started with science and with children falling in love with the subject. Cambridge Science Centre provides access to science and creates a passion for it from a young age. We’re proud to support them in this important work, which is key to Cambridge and the future of research and innovation in the UK.”

And let’s not forget the young voices who stole the show – Laila and Celine from the North Cambridge Community Partnership (NCCP) Science Club, who shared their experiences around how they’ve enjoyed and benefited from the Centre’s Science Club programme. Golzar Zandi, from the NCCP Management committee, said: “This has been a privilege working collaboratively with CSC. This partnership initiative creates a space for our local children to thrive and explore science in an eventful way. Each session effectively creates such well-received platforms for families from varied backgrounds to engage. We are thrilled to announce our local community is going beyond learning science and is now developing and practising a new culture.”

The evening was filled with joy and inspiration, reminding all that Cambridge Science Centre is at the heart of connected Cambridge. So, here’s to ten years of science WOW – and many more to come!
